Transforming Industrial Scenes with Smart PCBA Technology
When thinking of industrial settings, a traditional image may come to mind: workers manually assembling parts on an assembly line. However, as technology rapidly evolves—especially in areas like touchscreens, IoT (Internet of Things), and cloud computing—this image is becoming outdated. Modern industrial machines equipped with intelligent PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) are now capable of real-time condition monitoring, fault diagnostics, and predictive maintenance. These features significantly enhance both equipment safety and operational efficiency.

Overview of the PCBA Boards in the System
The featured project consists of four key PCB types:
1. Main Control PCB
This is a 4-layer PCB using FR4 material with a TG rating of 130. The board has a thickness of 2.0mm and is constructed with 2oz copper. It uses Lead-Free HASL for surface finishing, paired with green solder mask and white silkscreen. The layout and pad designs are standard, which simplifies manufacturing. The PCB adheres to IPC Class 2 standards and is suitable for mass production. During manufacturing, we create panels of 2 units per panel, with an added 10mm edge and four positioning holes for assembly alignment. After the SMT and DIP assembly processes, the edges are trimmed to deliver the final product.
Importantly, the panels contain no X-out boards, ensuring 100% yield per panel. Several custom heat sinks are integrated into the system, requiring strict transportation and packaging protocols to prevent any damage to the large PCB board during shipment.
2. Sensor PCB & Switch Control PCB
These are both 2-layer PCBs, each with a thickness of 1.6mm and 1oz copper. Like the main PCB, these also use Lead-Free HASL, green solder mask, and white silkscreen. The same paneling process is applied: 2 pieces per panel, 10mm edge clearance, and 4 positioning holes. All specifications conform to general industrial electronics standards, ensuring stability in both prototyping and mass production.
3. Power Supply PCB (Single Layer)
This smaller board is a single-layer PCB with 1.6mm thickness and 1oz copper. It is also finished with Lead-Free HASL, green solder mask, and white silkscreen. Production is handled in 6-up panels for efficiency. One manufacturing challenge was sourcing a custom inductance component, which extended the delivery lead time to 4 weeks. Additionally, the client initially did not provide the model of the mounting screws. Once a sample was provided, we sourced the screws to match the exact hole specifications on the board.

Cable Assembly: The Project’s Complexity Highlight
One of the most intricate aspects of this industrial PCBA project was the custom wire harness. Each cable required specific lengths and terminal types, pre-fabricated at the cable supplier’s facility. Once received, we performed through-hole soldering and mounted all cables onto the respective PCBs. To ensure reliable and durable connectivity, we applied conformal coating (glue) over the wire-to-pad joints. This detail is clearly visible in the reference image.
