Issue 1: How to Open and Run the Decryption Program
When Amy sent me the decrypted program, the first problem was how to run it. I did not know which programmer software was compatible. My device is the SuperPro 5000U, while Amy confirmed that the program runs smoothly on SuperPro 6100 or ALTERA devices.

Initially, the program did not open on the 5000U model. After reviewing the official manual and following the steps carefully, I was finally able to open and load the program correctly.
This highlights an important point for PCB engineers: different programmer models may vary in format compatibility, and checking the supported device list is essential before burning chip firmware.
Issue 2: JTAG Wiring Difficulties
The SuperPro 5000U JTAG interface includes 7 wires labeled 1–7. Without a wiring guide, I had no idea how to connect them to the IC.
Amy provided a chip pinout diagram and reminded me that I only needed to locate and connect four key JTAG signals:
- TDI
- TDO
- TCK
- TMS
Initial Attempt Using a Multimeter
Amy suggested using the continuity mode on the multimeter:
- Set the multimeter to buzzer mode.
- Touch one multimeter probe to each IC pin (the chip had 144 pins).
- Touch the other probe to each of the 7 JTAG wires.
- When the multimeter beeps, the corresponding wire-pin connection is identified.
However, this process was extremely time-consuming due to the large number of pins.
Alternate Wiring Schemes Provided
Amy then offered two possible wiring configurations:
- Configuration A:
- TCK → 5
- TDI → 7
- TMS → G
- TDO → 6
- Configuration B:
- TCK → 5
- TDI → 7
- TMS → 6
- TDO → G


Even so, the wiring still failed to work. I then shared with Amy the Chinese-language programmer instructions. After comparing the instructions with the chip data sheet, Amy identified the root cause: I had made an error in the wiring connection.
Once corrected, the decryption program ran successfully.
Issue 3: Program Copied but Chip Not Working
Although the system indicated that the program had been successfully copied to the new chip, the board did not work.
Possible Causes
Many factors can cause a PCB or chip to malfunction:
- The original chip might have already been damaged.
- PCB soldering quality may be poor.
- Other electronic components on the board may be faulty.
- The burning process may not have actually written all data correctly.
Functional Criteria
A working chip in this application should:
- Light up when connected.
- Light only once when disconnected.


Failure symptoms included:
- The indicator light turning on automatically without any external input.
- After unplugging and reconnecting the wire, the second LED flashing unexpectedly.
These symptoms demonstrate that chip programming issues, IC compatibility, or board-level hardware problems could all contribute.
