The STS30S electric taximeter is widely used in taxis and three-wheel vehicles across India, especially in rural markets. A taximeter is an electronic or mechanical device that calculates passenger fares based on distance traveled and waiting time. This compact and energy-efficient unit is easy to install, offers reliable fare calculation, and is built for stable performance in demanding environments.
PCB Design and Manufacturing Overview
The core of this product is a 2-layer PCB. The board thickness is 1.6mm with 1oz copper. It utilizes FR4 material (TG130) and meets IPC Class 2 standards. The PCB surface finishing is Lead-Free HASL, featuring green solder mask and white silkscreen. These specifications ensure durability and ease of mass production.
To optimize manufacturing, two pieces are panelized together with V-cut lines. After PCBA assembly, the boards are separated and edge-finished for smoothness. No X-out boards are present in the production process, ensuring consistency and quality.

PCBA Assembly Considerations
The board includes several IC components, with fine pitch distances that require precise manual and machine soldering. Our production team carefully controls soldering quality to avoid bridging and ensure high reliability.
Other components, such as custom coil inductors, are sourced from trusted suppliers with whom we maintain long-term partnerships. For instance, the coil inductance used in this design is custom-manufactured with a typical lead time of about 4 weeks.
Capacitor positioning and mechanical spacing are designed to avoid interference with the enclosure. The pad layout follows IPC Level 2 guidelines and all components are mounted on a single side.
Back-Side Touch Points and Protective Coating
On the back side of the PCB, there are nine touch points designed for input controls that allow the driver to operate the meter functions. These touch controls are essential to the operation of the final product.
After assembly, protective conformal coating is applied to the IC and connector areas. This coating helps prevent moisture and dust ingress, improving durability and extending product lifespan.
Final Assembly and Enclosure Integration
The PCBA is installed inside a durable plastic meter enclosure. Four screws secure the board at the corners, and additional internal support is applied to prevent damage during vehicle vibration or accidental impact. The LCD screen is attached to display fare, distance, and meter status clearly for the driver and passenger.

This assembly results in a stable, energy-efficient, and easy-to-install device that customers can mount or remove as needed.
